Australian International Music Festival

This festival takes place at venues throughout Sydney and offers a week of concert performances by everything from school choirs to visiting community orchestras. The 18th Festival will take place in 2007.
The idea behind the event is to allow outstanding non-professional musicians to perform in Sydney's venues, including the Opera House. Participants not only get to perform for the public, but also to swap musical styles with each other and enjoy the social life of Australia's most happening city.

Every musical group that enters the festival (bar the smaller jazz groups) has the opportunity to play for 20 minutes in either the world famous Opera House or Sydney's imposing Victorian town hall. The larger bands and some of the choirs are offered performance time outdoors: either at the popular social spot of Darling Harbour, home to many of Sydney's best wine bars and clubs, or at the city's National Maritime Museum.

Every concert is open to the public.
