Anxi Tea Garden & Hua’an Tulou 2-Day Tour

From ¥1400

Anxi, a small and mountainous county in southeast Fujian Province, has a tea farming history dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and currently produces 15,000 tons of oolong tea annually with its 16,700 acres of tea gardens. The word you will hear most often in Anxi is probably Tie Guan Yin (Iron Goddess tea), the name of a premium variety of Oolong tea, as Anxi is hailed as the birthplace of this special tea. Most of the population is involved in some aspect of tea cultivation. The best oolong tea is considered to be tea cultivated at 800 meters above sea level, where the soil is slightly acidic, the relative humidity is higher than 78% and the temperature stays continually between 16℃ to 18 ℃.

Fujian’s Tulou buildings and Hakka villages are scattered around the triangle of mountains in the southwestern part of the province. The so-called earthen buildings (tulou in Chinese) have been attracting more and more attention recently in China and around the world. The tulou buildings are large and enclosed buildings rectangular or circular in shape with an open center. They generally have very thick earth walls (up to 6 feet thick), are three to five stories tall and able to house up to 80 families.
