5.7 million tourists visit Fujian during May Day holiday

Update:05 May 2014

As many as 5.66 million tourists have been to Fujian province during the May Day holidays, a record high number and a 22.6 percent increase over the same period last year, sources from the provincial tourism bureau said on Sunday.

Tourism revenue also skyrocketed to 3.6 billion yuan, a 24.1 percent growth year-on-year, during the three-day holidays which lasted from Thursday to Saturday.

Excursions were the most popular travel for most tourists, as many railway stations across the province reported hot sales of tickets, and an increasing number of cars for self-drive tours were witnessed at many of Fujian’s scenic spots.

Eco-tourism became the most favored option. Many of Fujian’s famous ecological scenic areas, such as Gulin Resort in Fuzhou, Qingyuan Mountain in Quanzhou, Niumu Woods in Yongchun and Baishuiyang Resort in Pingnan, have seen an increase of not less than 50 percent in tourist numbers.

Countryside tours and hot spring tours are the new forces in this flourishing business. Nearly 340,000 people have been to a cultural event held in an ancient community in Fuzhou during the holidays; and about 71,000 tourists experienced hot spring therapies in a scenic resort in Guian county, representing a 440 percent year-on-year growth.
