Taiwan's China Airlines launches direct flights to Yantai in mainland

Update:14 Jul 2014

China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan's largest carrier, launched direct flights to Yantai City in East China on Thursday in a bid to expand its market presence across the Taiwan Strait.

CAL will now fly every Monday and Thursday from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to the city in Shandong Province, using a Boeing 737-800 airliner capable of carrying up to 158 passengers.

Yantai and three other new routes to Changchun, Hefei and Xuzhou have been newly added to CAL's cross-strait network to provide passengers more flexible flight options, according to CAL Chairman Sun Huang-hsiang.

The airline's cross-strait routes will increase from 28 to 32 by the end of July, serving a total of 152 flights per week, according to Sun.
