KLM signs cooperation agreement with China's Xiamen Airlines

Update:18 Mar 2015

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL, Amsterdam) has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Xiamen Airlines (MF, Xiamen) and the City of Amsterdam in a bid to strengthen collaboration and accessibility between the Netherlands and China. Present during the ceremony was KLM CEO Pieter Elbers, Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan, and Xiamen Airlines’ Chief Operating Officer Zhao Dong.

"I’m pleased that signing this memorandum takes cooperation between KLM and Xiamen Airlines to an even higher level," Pieter Elbers, KLM President & CEO, said. "In so doing, we’re able to offer our passengers an even broader range of choices. Together with our Chinese partners, we connect Europe and China directly, as well as offering shorter transfer options to secondary airports within China."

The agreement comes ahead of Xiamen Airlines' European debut with services to Amsterdam this summer which will compliment the Dutch carrier's existing 3x weekly service to Xiamen.

Currently, KLM cooperates with five Chinese airlines: China Southern Airlines (CZ, Guangzhou), China Eastern Airlines (MU, Shanghai Hongqiao), Xiamen Airlines, Sichuan Airlines (3U, Chengdu) from mainland China, and China Airlines (CI, Taipei Taoyuan) in Taiwan.
