System in place to ensure food safety in Fujian

Food and farm produce safety relies much on the promotion of pollution-free farm produce, green food and organic food.

Fujian Provincial Department of Agriculture held a Work Meeting on Pollution-Free Farm Produce, Green Food and Organic Food on Friday morning, stressing 7 ways to ensure food safety.

The 7 ways include: -

  1. Evaluation system of pollution-free production areas for farm produce
  2. Quality safety standard system
  3. Inspection and testing system of quality safety
  4. Certification system of quality safety
  5. Service system of the technical promotion of quality safety
  6. Supervision and management system of quality safety
  7. Information of quality safety for farm produce

By far production areas with certifications for pollution-free products have reached 565, involving 510 enterprises and 710 types of products.

Enterprises with valid green food signs have come to 137, covering 323 types of products; while 14 enterprises have passed organic food certification, with 70 types of products.

Despite the positive progress, experts pointed out existing problems that hinder the sustainable development for green food products, obstruct the process of balanced development among different areas, and impede the supervision and management over quality of farm produce.

The Agricultural Department required departments concerned to reinforce the 7 systems and eliminate any safety hazards in quality control, thus preventing safety accidents.
